17-33 Kepler Problem - Trott 3.1-24b 09-07-16
I work through Michael Trott’s treatment of the Kepler problem that uses pattern matching techniques to generate a power series solution. To better understand this treatment, I recast it in my own notation/style. I also compare results for the power series against a paper in which an early symbolic computing approach to this problem was made. I find a discrepancy in the published results and perform a cross-check against a brute force calculation that gives me confidence in my own implementation of the pattern matching method.
